St. James and St. Patrick each have their own Lectors (Readers) and Commentators.
Purpose: In partnership with the pastor, proclaim the Word of God at Mass.
Responsibilities:- Prepare ahead of time by reading the particular Scripture for the liturgy. If commentating, read over carefully the commentator sheet before mass starts and assist the altar servers if you see a need.
- Be present at least 15 minutes before Mass time.
- Adjust the microphone for your height
- Read clearly and distinctly into the microphone while maintaining eye contact as much as possible.
- Carry the Lectionary with dignity and respect
- Dress appropriately. You are in God's House.
- Find a suitable replacement if you are unable to attend on your assigned date.
- Consult with the coordinator if you have a question or concern.
- By serving as a lector/commentator you are an active participant at Mass proclaiming God's word to His people.
