St. Vincent de Paul parish is currently sponsoring a food drive, which will end after the Parish picnic on June 22nd. Food banks generally run lower in supplies at this time of year but in reality the need is even higher in the summer. Many families may rely on school breakfast or lunch programs, so when the school year ends for the summer, there isn't an alternative for families. Yet, summer is the time when kids are at home and around the house so the demand for nutritious meals at home is even higher.
Some items that are suggested for donating are canned beans, fruit, vegetables, applesauce, canned meat or fish, soups and broths, pasta and pasta sauces, rice, cereal, peanut butter, crackers, dried fruit, shelf stable milk, cooking oil, granola bars, spices and herbs etc. Toiletry items like soap, toothpaste, shampoo, kleenex, toilet paper, sunscreen (summer time) and feminine hygiene products are greatly appreciated items. Diapers, baby cereal and baby food (check expiry date) are also items of need.
Please be generous as when families are struggling financially, food is often the last item to be purchased and by that time, funds left for groceries may be minimal . Boxes will be available at the back of STV church for your donations. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.
Thank you from the SVdP Sisters of Faith
